Branching Out

Writer's picture: Joyce AnnJoyce Ann

Hey all. I haven’t blogged in a while. Between the 6-week IV antibiotic treatments and my Contemporary Fiction Writing I course, I was really too drained to do too much of anything else. But I’m back and feeling so much better. I have three more courses before I officially begin my thesis novel and then I am done. I should have my MFA completed by December 2025.

In the meantime, I am ready to get back to work. Timely Talents participated in its first vendor event with success. We had a steady stream of people stopping by our table with questions about what we do, some made book purchases and some filled out our form expressing interest in receiving writing assistance with their stories.

Listed below are the platforms I am on, although I am still trying to figure out tiktok. I actually joined to get on booktok to promote my books, but I haven’t figured that out yet either, however, I do try to post something daily or every other day. I am getting a bit more comfortable tooting my own horn. If I learned one thing in the MFA program, it is that authors are also marketers. It was the one thing I did not want to do. When I sang in coffee houses, my mother took care of the bookings, the sellings of the CDs, the money talk (whether the place was going to pay me or I was going to play with a tip jar) and so much more. All I needed to know was where and when to show up. I was hoping writing was going to be the same way but even with an agent and publisher, most of the marketing falls in the lap of the author, so I really don’t have a choice but to get used to it. I do have a handful of “fans” that will write a review, a comment, a post, or tell others about my books or CDs of which I am eternally grateful.

Some projects I am currently working on:

  • I will be heading into the studio to finish up my fifth and final CD next month.

  • Dominic’s Dilemma: Bed Time -  I did a second re-write, will probably do one more before sending the idea to an illustrator and publisher.

  • A writing challenge for a writing community I joined called Deadlines for Writers: 12 short stories in 12 months. (Keeps the creative juices flowing)

In the meantime, follow me on the following platforms, subscribe to my newsletter and blogs and, of course, refer someone who has a story to tell and needs some assistance to Timely Talents at www.joyceannmc.com

Until next time…
